How do we help players to be more confident?

Have you always wondered why your child is performing so well in training and friendly matches however when it comes to the regular league games, he or she just freezes and end up playing below everyone’s expectations?

1. Kids and adults are alike when it comes to confidence. We only feel confident when we have a strong believe that we can perform the task well. Otherwise we are just not realistic with our ability and expecting a goal that is far beyond our reach. All the top footballers in the World, possesses this unbelievable confidence in them when they play. The reason is because they trust they can perform the task well hence they become more and more confident as the game goes on. Therefore, training drills in a typical session has to be realistic and crafted based on game situations. The exercises has to be broken down into detailed manner and explained specifically in order to overcome the problem. With loads of repetition of that game actions, they naturally become sharper and quicker to react. Come match day, they will be fully prepared of what to expect in such game scenarios and will execute it to perfection.

2. Spending additional time on the ball outside of training days. As the saying goes, practise makes perfect, get our free Maestro Ball Mastery Program and spend 10 minutes daily. You will see massive results in 30 days. The more comfortable you are on the ball, the better your first touch, you will definitely be more confident on the pitch. With their confidence on the pitch, opponents will be more cautious and wary of your movements, thus making them less confident when approaching your child. This is the main reason why some players are always performing exceptionally well in all games. Confidence is they key to their success.

3. As much as Football is played with their foot, they need to have a good mental space to maintain their composure throughout the game. There are various triggers in a game that distracts players; coaches, parents, referees, opponents and etc. Having a good mental preparation the night before right up to the car ride before the game is vital for their performance in the match. There is too much external “noise” from the sidelines, having a good mental preparation will cancel out the negative noise and channel all their positive energy into the game. Hence, whenever they get on the ball, its just an internal connection between them and the ball. Focussing on the inner connection is a vital tool that can bring that along when they reach the professional game when distractions is couple of times worst then what they faced when they are younger.

4. With the help of their coach, its very important to give them encouragement when they fail. Of course there is a difference in failing in a poor action compared to a good action. The coach should recognise that and constantly give verbal and non-verbal cues to the athlete to make them motivated and confident to keep trying on skills and technique acquired in the training session. As the quote by famous NBA basketball coach Phil Jackson “Fall down seven time, stand up eight”, even if they kept failing at the start, correct them, provide them with the right direction and eventually they will flourish. When they overcome this full cycle, this entire experience will reinstate the belief they have in themselves.

5. Lastly, the most important aspect of this topic is having fun in the sport. Kids should always be enjoying and having fun in all sessions. Only in this relaxed and fun environment, their creativity will be displayed and at moments we will discover the most amazing things that they can do without any supervision. Kids play football because of the love of the game, their friends and also because its fun. The fun element should always be there in every aspect. Supporting personnel such as coaches and parents must always create a fun environment for them to excel at the highest level, if not after a certain age, drop out will soon be evident. Lets keep football fun and engaging as how the kids sees it.

Till then, let our Maestro ball mastery program supercharge your progress and become ultra confident on the pitch.
